Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park
Gansu Sheng
Zhangye Danxia National Geological Park, located in Gansu Province, China, spans 322 square kilometers across Sunan and Linze counties. It is renowned for its extraordinary Danxia landform, characterized by vividly colored, smooth, and sharp rock formations rising several hundred meters tall. These formations resulted from sandstone and mineral deposits over 24 million years, later uplifted by tectonic activity related to the Himalayan orogeny. The park's landscape includes towers, pillars, and ravines with striking color patterns, making it one of China's most beautiful landforms. Officially designated a national geopark in 2016 and a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2019, it attracts numerous visitors to its main scenic areas such as Linze Danxia Scenic Area and Binggou Scenic Area. Boardwalks and access roads facilitate exploration of the geological wonders. The park's unique geological features and scenic beauty make it a premier destination for nature lovers and geotourists.
