The Stanserhorn funicular railway was constructed between 1891 and 1893 by Franz Josef Bucher-Durrer and Josef Durrer-Gasser, making it one of the world's first electrically powered mountain railways.

1970

Originally built in three sections, the railway operated until 1970 when a lightning strike caused a fire that destroyed the summit hotel and damaged the railway.

1974

The upper two sections ceased operation in 1974 and were replaced by a cable car in 1975.

2012

In 2012, the original cable car was replaced by the world's first CabriO open-top double-deck cable car.

2001

The summit restaurant was rebuilt as a revolving restaurant in 2001, enhancing the visitor experience.
