Jet d'Eau is a monumental fountain located in Geneva, Switzerland, where Lake Geneva flows out as the RhĂ´ne River. It is one of the city's most famous landmarks and a symbol of Geneva's identity. The fountain propels 500 liters of water per second up to an impressive height of approximately 140 to 150 meters, visible throughout the city and even from the air. Originally installed in 1886 as a safety valve for a hydraulic power network, it was relocated in 1891 to its current position to celebrate the Swiss Confederation's 600th anniversary and the Federal Gymnastics Festival. The modern fountain, installed in 1951, uses powerful pumps to shoot lake water rather than city water. Operating year-round during the day and illuminated at night in warmer seasons, the Jet d'Eau is a captivating spectacle, enhanced by occasional colorful lighting for special events. Visitors can approach the fountain via a stone jetty and should be prepared for occasional mist from wind changes. Its striking presence and engineering marvel make it a must-see attraction in Geneva.
