The Museum of Art and History (Musée d’art et d’histoire de Fribourg, MAHF) is a prominent cultural institution located in Fribourg, Switzerland. It is housed in two main buildings: the historic 16th-century Ratzéhof city palace and a former slaughterhouse across Murtenstrasse, connected by an underground passage. The museum's collections primarily focus on art and cultural artifacts from the canton of Fribourg, ranging from medieval sculptures and paintings to 19th and 20th-century works by local artists such as Bruno Baeriswyl and Oswald Pilloud. Permanent exhibitions explore themes including medieval art, Baroque piety, guilds and crafts, city representation, archaeology, and goldsmith art. The museum also features dedicated galleries for the sculptor Adèle d’Affry (Duchess of Castiglione Colonna) and stained glass art. Additionally, it hosts temporary exhibitions on historical and cultural topics and manages the Espace Jean-Tinguely–Niki-de-Saint-Phalle. The museum’s architecture and collections together provide an insightful journey into the region’s artistic and historical evolution.
