Fundação Ibere Camargo
Rio Grande do Sul
The Iberê Camargo Foundation, located in Porto Alegre, Brazil, is a cultural institution focused on preserving, studying, and promoting the work of renowned Brazilian painter Iberê Camargo (1914–1994). Established in 1995 by the artist's widow, Maria Coussirat Camargo, the foundation also fosters contemporary artistic reflection through exhibitions, courses, seminars, and meetings. Its striking museum building, inaugurated in May 2008, was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Vieira and is situated on the banks of Guaíba Lake. The architectural design features a monolithic structure with massive walls supporting the building, a ramped interior reminiscent of New York's Guggenheim Museum, and carefully framed views of the surrounding landscape. The museum houses nine exhibition rooms across three floors, an atrium, educational studios, an auditorium, a documentation center, and a research database dedicated to Iberê Camargo's oeuvre. The foundation's commitment to cultural education and research makes it a significant hub for Brazilian modern art and architecture.

Histoire
The Iberê Camargo Foundation was created in 1995, one year after the artist's death, by his widow Maria Coussirat Camargo, who donated his artistic collection to the institution.
Initially operating from Camargo's former home, the foundation decided in 1996 to build a new dedicated museum on a site donated by the Rio Grande do Sul state government at the Cristal neighborhood by Guaíba Lake.
The architectural project by Álvaro Siza Vieira, selected between 1998 and 1999, marked his first work in Brazil and was recognized internationally, winning the 2002 Golden Lion at the Venice Architecture Biennale and the 2014 Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize.
The museum was inaugurated on May 30, 2008, becoming a landmark of contemporary architecture and art preservation in southern Brazil.
