Hadji Dimitar House-Museum
Sliven
The Hadji Dimitar House-Museum is located in the Klutsokhor neighborhood of Sliven, Bulgaria, in the house where the famed Bulgarian revolutionary leader Hadji Dimitar was born. This modest, asymmetrical early Revival period house features traditional wooden verandas and architectural elements characteristic of the era. The museum complex includes the family inn of Hadji Dimitar's father, along with associated outbuildings and guest rooms that served visitors in pre-liberation Sliven. On the second floor, an extensive exhibition honors Hadji Dimitar and his comrade Stefan Karadzha, displaying firearms, cold weapons, photographs, and documents related to their heroic 1868 campaign against Ottoman forces. Established in 1935 alongside the unveiling of a monument to the voivode in Sliven, the museum has been expanded and updated over the years, with the latest exhibition opened in April 2024. The museum is a significant cultural site reflecting Bulgaria's 19th-century liberation struggles and the enduring legacy of its haiduti leaders.
