The Gabrovo Regional Historical Museum is one of the oldest cultural institutions in Gabrovo, Bulgaria, with a heritage spanning over 135 years. Histoire
The Gabrovo Regional Historical Museum traces its origins to 1883 when it was established as a museum within the Aprilov National High School by the school's director, Raycho Karolev.
In 1920, the Gabrovo Historiographic Society was founded to collect and preserve local historical materials, initiating archaeological excavations at the Gradishte site.
By 1923, the museum's collection was publicly exhibited in a room of the Aprilov High School.
The institution transitioned to a city people's museum in 1949, receiving its own building and permanent exhibitions focused on the Bulgarian National Revival and regional ethnography.
In 1960, it was designated a district museum with expanded departments including archaeology and modern history.
Since 2006, it has held the status of a regional museum, managing extensive collections that reflect the area's rich historical and cultural legacy.
