The Archaeological Museum in Burgas was founded in 1912 as a private institution by the Debelt Archaeological Society.

1927

Initially housed in the former Girls' Gymnasium building, it began formal archaeological research in 1927.

Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, the museum acquired many of its most valuable exhibits, including around 300 ceramic vessels dredged from the Sozopol harbor.

Over time, the museum expanded its collection to include significant artifacts from prehistoric, Thracian, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, medieval Bulgarian, and Ottoman cultures.

2012

In 2012, the museum celebrated its centenary as part of the Regional Historical Museum Burgas, now preserving over 15,000 cultural objects.
