Histoire
Rabindra Complex was originally the residence of Beni Madhab Roy Chowdhury, Rabindranath Tagore's father-in-law, in the village of Dakkhindihi, which was historically part of Jessore district under British India.
Tagore had close familial ties to this village, as it was the maternal ancestral home of his mother and other relatives.
Rabindranath Tagore married Mrinalini Devi, daughter of Beni Madhab, in 1883.
The house remained in the family until the mid-20th century, after which it changed hands and was subject to land grabbing.
In 1995, the building was recovered by local authorities and subsequently renovated by the Department of Archaeology of Bangladesh in 2011-12 to establish it as a museum and protected archaeological site.
