History
The Posbank stone bench was constructed in 1921 as a commemorative monument celebrating the 25-year tenure of Gerard Adriaan Pos as chairman of the ANWB, a Dutch tourist association.
Designed by architect Willem Leliman and built by contractor Gerrit Bennink, the bench symbolizes Pos's contributions to promoting peaceful travel and appreciation of Dutch nature.
The surrounding pavilion was originally built to serve visitors but was destroyed by fire in 1996.
A new pavilion was erected in 2002 to continue welcoming guests.
