Phare Ponleu Selpak was founded in 1994 by nine young men returning from refugee camps after the Khmer Rouge regime.
Initially started as drawing classes for therapy, it expanded into an art school and later included public and alternative education along with music, theater, and circus schools.
Over the years, it grew into a vocational training center serving over 1,700 pupils daily.
