Historie
The Gustavia Lighthouse was built in 1961 by the Direction des Phares and Balises on the grounds of Fort Gustav, an 18th-century fortification protecting Gustavia harbor.
Construction was completed in six months by Joseph Gréaux de Flamands and Louis Turbé de Public.
The original gas-powered lamp was first lit in 1962 by Albert Lédée, who served as lighthouse keeper for nearly 30 years.
In 1972, the lighthouse was electrified and automated with an electronic cell controlling the lamp based on ambient brightness.
Batteries were installed to provide backup power during hurricanes, ensuring continuous operation of the light.
