History
Phantasialand was founded on April 30, 1967, by Gottlieb Löffelhardt and Richard Schmidt on the site of a former brown coal mine.
Initially a fairy tale park with around 40 stories and family attractions, it expanded through the 1970s and 1980s to include themed areas like Alt-Berlin and Silver City, adding roller coasters and water rides.
A significant event in its history was the 2001 cable fire which destroyed two coasters and parts of the Westernstadt, leading to major redevelopment including the addition of River Quest.
Over the years, Phantasialand has continually reinvented itself with new rides and themes, such as the Klugheim area in 2016, maintaining its reputation as a top-tier theme park despite its limited physical size.
