History
The idea for Miniatur Wunderland originated in 2000 when Frederik Braun, while vacationing in Zurich, conceived the world's largest model railway.
Returning to Hamburg, he conducted surveys on popular city sights, which helped shape the concept.
The business plan was concise, and financial backing came primarily from Hamburger Sparkasse.
Construction began in December 2000, with the first three sections opening in August 2001.
Over the years, the exhibition expanded steadily, becoming Europe's largest model railway by 2002 and eventually the world's largest by 2015, confirmed by Guinness World Records.
Subsequent expansions included the United States, Scandinavia, Italy, and Monaco/Provence sections, with ongoing plans for further regions.
