History
Maison d'Ailleurs was established in 1976 following the donation of Pierre Versins' vast collection of science fiction and utopian works to the city of Yverdon-les-Bains.
Initially occupying a small flat, it gained prominence after relocating in 1989 to the renovated old prison building dating from 1806.
The museum opened its doors in this location in 1991.
Financial difficulties in the mid-1990s led to major budget cuts and staff dismissals, prompting the creation of a foundation in 1998 to manage the institution.
In 2003, the museum expanded by incorporating the extensive Jules Verne collection donated by Jean-Michel Margot, leading to the opening of the Espace Jules Verne in 2008.
Since then, Maison d'Ailleurs has developed as a leading center for science fiction research and exhibitions.
