The Franciscan Church of Shkodër, located in the Gjuhadol neighborhood of Shkodër, Albania, is a prominent religious and cultural landmark completed in 1905. Its origins trace back to the Assembly of Gjuhadol, founded in 1861 by Bishop Luigj Çiurçisë. Construction began in 1875 under Father Tomë Markoci and was dedicated in 1878 by Father Gjan Pjer Ferrari. The church and the adjoining assembly were originally designed by Friar Anselm, whose plans were later enhanced by French engineer Agustin Briott in 1902 after the Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid II granted permission to build. The church's architecture reflects a blend of Franciscan simplicity with French engineering influences. Historically, the church also witnessed political turmoil; in 1947, the Albanian Secret Police stored arms there, leading to the arrest of several priests. The church tower and rear wing were restored in 2007, preserving its historical integrity and continuing its role as a spiritual center in Shkodër.
