Originally opened as the Fred W.
Woodward Riverboat Museum on July 18, 1982, the institution expanded and reorganized into the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium.
It is operated by the Dubuque County Historical Society and includes the Mathias Ham Historic Site.
