Colorado
The Denver Art Museum (DAM), located in Denver's Civic Center, is one of the largest art museums between the West Coast and Chicago, with a vast collection exceeding 70,000 diverse works spanning centuries and cultures. It is especially celebrated for its extensive American Indian art and the Petrie Institute of Western American Art. The museum's campus includes the Martin Building, designed by Italian architect Gio Ponti in 1971, notable for its unique 24-sided, castle-like façade clad in reflective glass tiles. In 2006, the museum expanded with the Frederic C. Hamilton Building, designed by Studio Daniel Libeskind, which showcases Modern and Contemporary Art, African Art, Oceanic Art, and part of the Western American art collection. The museum underwent a major $150 million renovation starting in 2018 to unify its campus, revitalize the Ponti building, and add new galleries, dining options, and a welcome center. The DAM offers a dynamic range of exhibitions, educational programs, and family-friendly activities, making it a cultural hub that combines architectural innovation with rich artistic heritage.
