歴史
Saguaro National Park's origins trace back to 1933 when President Herbert Hoover designated the Rincon Mountain area as Saguaro National Monument under the Antiquities Act.
In 1961, President John F.
Kennedy expanded the monument by adding the Tucson Mountain District and renaming the original tract as the Rincon Mountain District.
Finally, in 1994, the United States Congress combined both districts to establish Saguaro National Park.
Over millions of years, geological processes shaped the contrasting landscapes of the two districts, with crustal stretching uplifting the Rincon Mountains.
The area has been historically inhabited by indigenous peoples, including the Hohokam and Tohono O'odham, and later explored by Spanish missionaries and settlers.
