History
The site originally served as an Italian army frontier barracks during the interwar period when southwestern Slovenia was part of the Kingdom of Italy.
It included a fortress of the Alpine Wall, constructed to defend the Italian side of the pre-1941 Rapallo border.
After World War II, the barracks were successively used by the Yugoslav and later Slovenian militaries.
In 2004, control of the facility transferred from the Slovene Ministry of Defense to the Municipality of Pivka, which transformed it into a military museum.
