Turning Torso
Skåne län
Turning Torso is a striking neo-futurist residential skyscraper located in Malmö, Sweden. Designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and opened in 2005, it stands 190 meters tall with 54 stories housing 147 apartments and office spaces. The building's design is inspired by Calatrava's twisting white marble sculpture, representing a human torso in motion, which is reflected in the building's unique form that twists 90 degrees from base to top. Constructed in nine segments of five-story pentagons, each floor rotates around a central core supported by an exterior steel framework. Turning Torso has become a defining symbol of Malmö's skyline, replacing the former landmark Kockums Crane and representing the city's modern architectural ambitions. The building won the 2005 Gold Emporis Skyscraper Award and the 10 Year Award from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat in 2015. It features office spaces in the lower segments, residential apartments above, and public amenities including an observation deck on the 49th floor and conference facilities on the top floors. Its innovative design and engineering have been featured in international media, highlighting its status as the world's second twisted skyscraper.
ヒント: Visitors should consider visiting during spring to autumn for the best weather and city views. Booking in advance is recommended for access to the public observation deck and special events on the upper floors. While apartments are rental units, the building also offers office and conference spaces available for reservation. Public access to the top conference floors is limited and requires pre-booking on scheduled days.
