Monastery of Veluće
Rasinski okrug
Located near the village of Veluće close to Trstenik in Serbia, the Monastery of Veluće is a protected cultural monument of great importance. It belongs to the Serbian Orthodox Church's Eparchy of Kruševac and architecturally exemplifies the Morava school, sharing stylistic similarities with the Lazarica Church in Kruševac. The monastery church, dedicated to the Presentation of the Virgin Mary, was built in the late 14th century, likely around 1377/1378, by a noble family connected to Prince Lazar, whose male members probably died in the Battle of Kosovo in 1389. Its exterior features decorative stone and brickwork with animal and interlaced motifs, reflecting the high social status and wealth of its founder. The interior frescoes, painted before 1389, differ stylistically from contemporary Morava painting, portraying figures in a flat, decorative manner. Notably, frescoes depict Prince Lazar and his wife, as well as four young men believed to be the founder’s sons, whose images were later altered after their probable deaths in battle. The monastery underwent restoration in the 19th century and again in the 20th and 21st centuries, preserving its architectural and artistic heritage. The monastery grounds include a well-maintained garden resembling a botanical park, enhancing its serene spiritual atmosphere.
ヒント: Visitors should consider visiting during spring or early autumn for pleasant weather and to enjoy the monastery's peaceful surroundings. It is advisable to check opening hours in advance and to respect the site's religious nature. While there is no mention of mandatory ticketing, donations or contributions to preservation efforts are appreciated. Guided tours may be available through local cultural organizations or the Eparchy office.
