Bukit Larut, also known as Maxwell Hill, is a hill resort located in Perak, Malaysia, about 10 kilometres southwest of Taiping. Established in 1884 by British colonists, it served as an observation point for tin mining activities and a cool retreat for English officials. The resort is renowned for its rich biodiversity, hosting over 600 highland plant species, numerous mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. It experiences the highest rainfall in Malaysia, making it a lush and verdant environment. The area preserves several colonial-era bungalows such as The Cottage, Tempinis, and Cendana Bungalows, which have been renovated to maintain their historical charm. Access is limited to four-wheel-drive vehicles or hiking due to the steep and narrow road. Bukit Larut also hosts the annual North Face Malaysia Mountain Trail Festival, a qualifier for the prestigious Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc. Its cool climate and scenic views make it a unique natural and historical destination in Peninsular Malaysia.
