歴史
The area of Nauthólsvík has a rich history beginning with the establishment of the Nauthóll farm around 1850, which was one of several new settlements near Reykjavík at the time.
The farm was a subsidiary of the Skildinganes estate and was located along a busy road.
Around 1900, the farm was abandoned and burned due to an outbreak of disease, with its ruins still visible near the parking area.
During World War II, the bay served as a strategic site for seaplanes operated by allied forces, including a Norwegian air squadron, playing a role in the Battle of the Atlantic.
A memorial commemorating the Norwegian squadron stands near the beach's service building today.
