Funen Village is a remarkable open-air museum located in Odense, Denmark, dedicated to preserving and illustrating rural life on the island of Funen during the 19th century. The village comprises 25 authentic buildings, including farms, cottages, a mill, a school, a tavern, and a brickworks, dating from around 1500 to the early 20th century. These structures were relocated from their original sites across Funen and reconstructed to reflect their historical appearance and function. The museum offers visitors a vivid experience of traditional crafts and daily life, with interpreters dressed in period costumes performing activities such as cooking on old stoves, weaving, blacksmithing, and brewing. The surrounding landscape features historical gardens and orchards with old Funen fruit tree varieties, and fields cultivated using traditional seven-year crop rotation. The site also includes a covered open-air stage hosting cultural events and concerts, continuing a tradition dating back to the 1940s. Funen Village not only serves as a building museum but also conveys social and agricultural history through its exhibitions and original artifacts, making it a unique cultural heritage destination in Denmark.
