History
Originally developed as the Brand-Briesen Airfield in 1938, the site was used by the German Luftwaffe and later occupied by the Soviet Army after World War II, serving military purposes until German reunification.
In 1992, Cargolifter AG purchased the site to build airships in the enormous Aerium hangar, completed in 2000 as the world's largest pillar-free hall.
However, the airship project failed, leading to bankruptcy in 2002.
The Malaysian company Tanjong acquired the building in 2003, converting it into the Tropical Islands Resort, which opened in December 2004.
Since then, the resort has expanded with new attractions, a sauna complex, and accommodation facilities, becoming a major tourist destination in Germany.
