Ravensburger Spieleland was founded in 1997 with an initial capital investment of 30 million Deutsche Marks, primarily by Ravensburger AG and private investors from the Lake Constance region.

The park officially opened on April 5, 1998.

Early visitor numbers fell short of projections, leading to financial losses and legal disputes, which were amicably resolved by 2006, making Ravensburger AG the sole owner.
