Newton Navarro Bridge
Rio Grande do Norte
The Newton Navarro Bridge is a prominent cable-stayed structure located in Natal, the capital of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. It spans the Potengi River, linking the North Zone and northern coastal cities with the South Zone and other parts of the city. Designed by Italian engineer Mario de Miranda, the bridge measures approximately 2.7 kilometers in length, with about 500 meters supported by steel cables attached to two central pylons standing 110 meters tall. Its impressive height and modern design have made it a local tourist attraction. Officially opened in November 2007, the bridge was built to alleviate traffic congestion on the older Igapó Bridge, improve access to the Greater Natal International Airport, and facilitate the flow of tourists along the northern coast. It also enhanced connectivity for residents of the North Zone to downtown and other city areas. The structure features both scenic and road lighting, contributing to its visual appeal. Named in honor of Newton Navarro, a notable local artist, the bridge has become a symbol of urban development and infrastructure progress in the region. Despite initial construction delays and controversies, the bridge today plays a vital role in Natal's transportation network and regional economic growth.
ヒント: Visitors should consider exploring the bridge during daylight for panoramic views and photographic opportunities. Weekdays outside peak traffic hours offer a more relaxed experience. While pedestrian and cyclist access is allowed, safety precautions are advised. No advance ticketing is required as the bridge is publicly accessible. Local authorities occasionally perform maintenance checks that may temporarily restrict traffic; checking local updates before visiting is recommended.
