History
The Wine Museum was established in 2008 as a public-private partnership, with the state owning the cave and private investors contributing to the museum's development.
It was created to celebrate Pleven's role as Bulgaria's wine industry center, home to the first professional vine growing and winemaking school founded in 1890.
The National Institute of Viticulture and Oenology was also founded here in 1902, following the advice of French specialist Pierre Viala.
Over the years, the museum has grown to house one of Bulgaria's largest wine collections and serves as an educational and cultural hub for viticulture.
