History

Lake Balkana was constructed in the 1950s as an artificial lake complex on the slopes of Lisina mountain.

It was developed as part of the Upper Sana-Pliva tourist zone near the former AVNOJ road connecting Jajce, Mrkonjić Grad, and Bihać.

Since its creation, the lake has become a favored recreational and fishing destination in the region.

Over the decades, it has maintained its natural setting, bordered by forests and pastures, and has supported local tourism and leisure activities.
