1899

In 1899, Cathedral Ledge was purchased by local residents and visitors for $1,000 to protect it from commercial exploitation.

The following year, White Horse Ledge, a nearby rock formation, was also acquired.

Both ledges were eventually deeded to the State of New Hampshire, ensuring their preservation.

1943

In 1943, the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests collaborated with the state to raise funds to acquire Echo Lake, further safeguarding the natural landscape from development.

These efforts have maintained Cathedral Ledge as a public recreational area for over a century.
