Historia
The Dallas Museum of Art originated from the Dallas Art Association founded in 1903, initially exhibiting art in the Dallas Public Library.
It was renamed the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts in 1932 and moved to an art deco building in Fair Park in 1936 for the Texas Centennial Exposition.
Under director Jerry Bywaters from 1943 to 1964, the museum cultivated a strong Texas art identity.
In 1963, it merged with the Dallas Museum of Contemporary Art, significantly expanding its collection.
By the late 1970s, the museum relocated to its current modernist building in the Dallas Arts District, designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes, opening in 1984.
