Historia

1969

The museum was officially established on February 6, 1969, by a resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR, following public initiatives to preserve Ukrainian regional culture.

Petro Timofiyovych Tronko, a prominent cultural figure, played a key role in founding the museum and selecting its location.

1971

Initially administered by the Ministry of Culture, it was transferred in 1971 to the Ukrainian Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments, marking a period of significant expansion and restoration efforts.

Many historic wooden structures were carefully dismantled and relocated to the museum grounds, overcoming political and logistical challenges to create an authentic representation of Ukraine's folk heritage.
