Historia
Founded in 1975 by regional governor Abdelrahim Mahmoud with support from President Gaafar Nimeiry, the University of Gezira was the first Sudanese university established outside Khartoum.
It was created to serve community development by linking education with Sudan's rural and environmental needs, particularly leveraging the nearby Gezira agricultural project.
Over the decades, it expanded its faculties and campuses, becoming a leading institution in Sudan.
Recently, during the Sudanese civil war starting in 2023, the university suffered attacks that affected its facilities.

Elrazi Campus
Situated in southern Wad Madani, Elrazi hosts faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy, Applied Medical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Science, Dentistry, and Mathematical and Computer Sciences. It also includes the Water Management and Irrigation Institute, National Cancer Institute, and other research centers. The campus supports advanced medical and scientific education and research.
Hantoub Campus
Home to the Faculty of Education - Hantoub and the Institute of Islamization of Knowledge, this campus emphasizes teacher education and the integration of Islamic principles in knowledge development.
