During the 1940s, the location was used to bottle Guinness beer for Cork customers. The brewery has produced notable beer brands such as Chieftain IPA, Rebel Red, Shandon Stout (in collaboration with Jameson distillers), Well Hazy, Archway Lager, and Friar Weisse. Although the Franciscan Well beer brand was acquired by Molson Coors in 2013, the pub and brewery remain under the original ownership. After a rebranding in 2016 and a production peak of 90,000 kegs annually by 2018, the brewery has established itself as a key player in the Irish craft beer scene. Brewing resumed in 2022 under the name Original7, with the brewery regaining its independence. The Franciscan Well has also collaborated with brands like Jameson and Cork’s Tanora soft drinks producer, highlighting its innovative spirit.
