Terra Nostra Park is a renowned botanical garden located in the Vale das Furnas on São Miguel Island, Azores, Portugal. It is celebrated for housing one of the world's largest collections of camellias, with over 600 varieties, and Europe's largest collection of cycads. The park originated in 1780 when Thomas Hickling, then the U.S. Consul on São Miguel, built his summer residence known as Yankee Hall. Significant development occurred in the mid-19th century under the Viscounts of Praia, especially Duarte Borges da Câmara and later his son António Borges de Medeiros, who introduced expert landscaping and imported emblematic trees from across the globe. In the 1930s, Vasco Bensaúde acquired the park, expanded it to 12.5 hectares, and enhanced its botanical diversity and facilities, including the maintenance of the iron-rich thermal pool, a unique feature offering therapeutic bathing experiences. Recognized internationally for its beauty, the park blends historical architecture, exotic flora, and soothing thermal waters, making it a unique destination for nature lovers and cultural tourists alike.
