The land of Quinta da Regaleira has a documented history dating back to the late 17th century, changing hands among various owners before being acquired in 1892 by António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro.

Monteiro, a wealthy and cultured man, commissioned architect Luigi Manini to design the estate as a symbolic and mystical retreat reflecting his interests in esoteric traditions.

1942

The estate passed to Waldemar d'Orey in 1942, who maintained it as a private residence.

1987
