Midgard Viking Centre opened in 2000 as Midgard Historical Centre and was inaugurated by Queen Sonja.

2007

In 2007, archaeological discoveries of large Viking-age buildings at the Borrefelt site revealed Borre as a royal power centre predating the Viking era.

2013

The Gildehallen, a reconstructed chieftain's hall based on these findings and Norse craft traditions, opened in 2013.

The centre, together with Borreparken, was chosen as Vestfold county's millennium site.
