Museum De Pont
Noord-Brabant
De Pont Museum of Contemporary Art, located in Tilburg, North Brabant, Netherlands, is a prominent institution dedicated to contemporary visual art. Founded in 1992 through the legacy of lawyer and businessman Jan de Pont, the museum is housed in a repurposed wool-spinning mill, transformed by architect Benthem Crouwel. It features a collection of more than 800 works by approximately eighty internationally acclaimed living artists, including Marlene Dumas, Bill Viola, and Anish Kapoor. The museum's acquisition policy emphasizes depth over breadth, focusing on key works that represent the essence of each artist's oeuvre rather than a broad spectrum of styles or movements. De Pont has introduced several artists to the Dutch public, often hosting their first major exhibitions in the country. Its building includes a specially designed wing for photography and video art, opened in 2016, enhancing the museum's capacity to present diverse contemporary media. The museum also offers facilities such as a café, garden, and auditorium, making it a comprehensive cultural venue. Financially independent since its inception, De Pont remains committed to stimulating contemporary art without reliance on government funding.

Historia
The De Pont Museum was established following the death of Jan de Pont in 1987, who left part of his estate to promote contemporary visual art.
The foundation created to manage this legacy chose to convert a Tilburg wool-spinning mill, a nod to de Pont's ties to the city and its textile industry.
The mill, which had ceased operations due to foreign competition, was acquired symbolically, and several former employees were retained.
Architect Benthem Crouwel refurbished the building, and the museum opened in 1992.
Since then, it has expanded both its collection and physical space, including a new wing dedicated to photography and video art in 2016.
The founding director Hendrik Driessen retired in 2019, succeeded by Martijn van Nieuwenhuyzen.
