Historia

1919

The origins of Pantropica trace back to 1919 when the Maarssen family started a flower nursery specializing in carnations, chrysanthemums, and lilacs.

1957

In 1957, Thomas Maarssen began cultivating orchids, and in 1979 the nursery relocated to its current site in the Noordoostpolder.

1984

Public interest grew during open days, leading the family to open the nursery regularly to visitors from 1984 onward.

Over the decades, the business expanded into a tropical jungle park, adding themed gardens and animal exhibits.

2014

The park received its official zoo license in 2014 and was renamed Pantropica in 2024 to reflect its broader tropical theme and attractions.
