1983

The museum was established on December 21, 1983, by repurposing the building of the former Chisinau Boys' Gymnasium.

It was initially formed by merging the Republican Museum of Military Glory and the State Museum of History and Regional Studies of MSSR.

1991

In 1991, it was renamed the National Museum of History of Moldova.

2006

A significant reorganization occurred in 2006 when it absorbed the Museum of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, expanding its scientific scope.
