Balneario Pelluhue, locally known as Mariscadero, is a coastal resort located in the Maule Region of Chile, within the Cauquenes Province. It lies just north of the town of Pelluhue, separated by the Curanilahue River, and approximately 8 km south of Chanco. Originally a small fishermen's village, Mariscadero developed into an independent seaside resort in the 1950s with the construction of summer homes. The area is accessible via a scenic paved coastal route connecting neighboring towns. In 1994, fossil remains of a plesiosaur species named Wunyelfia maulensis were discovered here, highlighting its paleontological significance. The 2010 tsunami severely damaged the lower coastal area and altered the course of a nearby stream. Today, the resort features numerous vacation homes, hostels, and hotels, attracting many visitors especially during summer weekends. The nearby extensive "Dunas de Chanco" are a striking natural feature, resembling a sea of dark gray sand waves, occasionally interrupted by pine forests. Mariscadero also hosts the traditional "trilla a yegua suelta" festival each year, celebrating rural customs with folk music, rodeos, and Chilean horse races, enriching its cultural appeal.
