Bamingui is a town and sub-prefecture situated in the Bamingui-Bangoran Prefecture in the northern part of the Central African Republic. Positioned on the south bank of the Bamingui River, also known as the Chari River, it lies along National Route 8, approximately 529 kilometers northeast of the capital city, Bangui. The town had an estimated population of 6,230 as of 2003. Bamingui has experienced significant conflict in recent years; in December 2012, it fell under the control of the rebel coalition Séléka during clashes with government forces. Later, on 25 June 2021, government troops recaptured the town amid an offensive against the Coalition of Patriots for Change rebels. Its location along a major route and river makes it a noteworthy settlement in the region, reflecting both its strategic importance and the challenges faced due to ongoing conflicts.
