Palácio do Planalto serves as the official workplace of the President of Brazil and houses other key government offices including the Vice-President and Chief of Staff. Designed by renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer and engineered by Joaquim Cardozo, it was inaugurated on April 21, 1960, as a centerpiece of Brasília's modernist urban plan. The building features sleek, modernist lines with distinctive columns and a reflecting pool added in 1991 to enhance security and environmental balance. Its location at the Praça dos Três Poderes places it at the heart of Brazil's federal government alongside the National Congress and the Supreme Federal Court. The palace's interior includes reception halls, a presidential gallery with portraits of former presidents, and offices for high-ranking officials. It underwent a major restoration from 2009 to 2010 to update infrastructure and preserve its architectural integrity. The Palácio do Planalto is not only a functional seat of executive power but also a symbol of Brazil's political history and architectural innovation.
