Cristo de la Concordia
Cochabamba
Cristo de la Concordia is a monumental statue of Jesus Christ located atop San Pedro Hill east of Cochabamba, Bolivia. Standing on a pedestal, the statue reaches a total height of 39.68 meters (130.2 feet), making it one of the tallest statues of Jesus globally. Constructed between 1987 and 1994, it was designed by César and Wálter Terrazas Pardo and modeled after the famous Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro. The statue stands 265 meters above the city and 2,840 meters above sea level, weighing approximately 2,200 tonnes. Its arms stretch 32.87 meters wide, and the head alone measures 4.64 meters tall. Visitors can climb 1,399 stairs to a viewing area inside the statue's arms on Sundays, or alternatively reach the site via cable car. The statue's left hand points south and the right hand north, symbolizing peace and harmony. It is the third largest statue in the Southern Hemisphere and surpasses the height of its model, Christ the Redeemer, by a small margin attributed locally to Christ living beyond 33 years.
