Historia
The cathedral originated as the main church of the Diocese of Sá da Bandeira, established on 27 July 1955 from the Diocese of Nova Lisboa.
It was elevated to metropolitan status with the promotion of the diocese to the Archdiocese of Lubango on 3 February 1977.
