The Catumbela Bridge, officially known as the 4 de Abril Bridge, spans the Catumbela River in Angola's Catumbela municipality. Inaugurated on September 10, 2009, by President José Eduardo dos Santos, this bridge is a vital infrastructure linking the cities of Benguela and Lobito, as well as connecting northern, central, and southern provinces of Angola. Constructed between July 2007 and July 2009 by Soares da Costa and Mota-Engil under engineers Armando Rite and Pedro Cabral, the bridge measures 438 meters in length with a main span of 160 meters and lateral spans of 64 meters each. Its width of 24.5 meters accommodates two lanes of traffic in each direction along with two pedestrian levels. The bridge features distinctive U-shaped towers standing 50 meters tall and two access viaducts, with a platform spanning 170 meters over the river. Named after the April 4, 2002 peace agreements that ended Angola's civil war, the bridge is not only an engineering feat but also a symbol of peace and national unity, significantly improving transportation and economic integration in the region.
