The Västerås steam power plant, where Kokpunkten is located, was originally commissioned in 1917 and operated until 1992.
In 1999, the building was declared a protected historical site.
The middle section of the former power plant was renovated and transformed into the Kokpunkten adventure waterpark, which opened in August 2014.
Subsequently, the high boiler house was converted into the Steam Hotel, inaugurated in 2017.
This adaptive reuse preserved the industrial heritage while providing new recreational and hospitality functions.
