MoraviÄŤki okrug
Established in 1994, the Gornji Milanovac Town Museum, also known as the Museum of the Rudnik-Takovski Region, serves as a guardian of the rich cultural and historical legacy of the municipality. It is headquartered in the Brković House, a 1938 building located in the city center, which features modern pre-war architectural elements. The museum manages several important cultural sites, including the 'Takovski grm' landmark commemorating the Second Serbian Uprising, Miloš’s Konak in Gornja Crnuća, and the Serbian-Norwegian Friendship House. Its collections stem from the extensive legacy of collector Sreten Ljubenović Konkordija, encompassing over a thousand artifacts spanning archaeological, historical, artistic, ethnographic, and numismatic fields. Notable exhibits include the permanent display of the Orenović dynasty’s gifts and purchases, as well as legacies of local artists and families. The museum also oversees archaeological sites revealing prehistoric and medieval settlements, including Roman remains on Rudnik Mountain, where Serbia’s earliest known excavations took place in 1865. This institution plays a vital role in preserving around twenty cultural monuments, including old rural and urban architecture and archaeological sites, thus offering visitors a comprehensive insight into the region's multifaceted heritage.
