Karnali Bridge is an asymmetric, single-tower, cable-stayed bridge located over the Karnali River, connecting the Kailali and Bardiya districts in western Nepal. It is the first and only cable-stayed bridge in Nepal and the second longest of its type in the country. The bridge was designed by the American firm Steinman, Boynton, Gronquist & Birdsall, constructed by Kawasaki Heavy Industries of Japan, and funded by the World Bank. Its strategic placement on the Mahendra Highway at Chisapani makes it a vital transportation link and a notable tourist attraction. The bridge's innovative engineering and international collaboration highlight Nepal's infrastructural development. It was inaugurated by the late Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala after six years of construction. The site is accessible from Kathmandu, approximately 500 km away, and is near the town of Chisapani and the airport in Dhangadhi, making it convenient for both domestic and international visitors.
